Adoption Process

We are dedicated to
finding the very best forever homes for retired racing greyhounds. We
provide ongoing support and encouragement to all of families and hounds.
|
The
below hounds are currently in kennels or fostering in Ireland. In
addition to the list below we also have a waiting list of dogs due to
come in. So, if you don't see a suitable dog for you in the list below,
it's always worth contacting us to see if a suitable hound might be
coming in soon.
If * RESERVED *
is under a dogs name this means someone has made a enquiry about that
particular dog and we are checking out the home offer. But please do
still contact us if the dog you are interested in is on hold for
someone else. If you can offer a loving home we can put you on reserve
in case that home offer doesn't work out, and if it does, we can find
another dog that's right for you. There's always lots of beautiful and
needy greyhounds looking for their special home. All our dogs are
neutered (except pups which are too young, then adopters need to agree
to have this done), vaccinated and most are microchipped. If you'd like
to know more about our procedure to adopt a greyhound please click on
the Adoption Process link to the left.
Alisa
*
RESERVED for the UK *
Alisa
and her brother Ossy are two black
greyhounds who had no interest at all in racing. Fortunately, their
trainer cared enough about them to hand them over to us so that we
could find them loving homes where they can spend the rest of their
days relaxing in luxury. Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
We would love to find these two sweeties a home together, but would
consider splitting them up if the right homes came along.
Alisa and Ossy still have their fluffy brown kennel coat at the moment,
but once they lose this these two black beauties will make a real
eye-catching pair.
~ Other Animals ~
Alisa is a sociable girl and is good with the other greyhounds in our
kennels. She has not been tested yet with smaller dogs but this can be
carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds
need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never
have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dog
~ In the Home ~
Alisa has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will
need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her
time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14
days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really
all they need is a bit of time and patience.
~ Out and About ~
Alisa walks very well on the lead and like most greyhounds, she will
not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30
minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs off-lead in
a secure area once or twice a week
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to
being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different
lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their
soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family
environment, while their love of lazing around and low exercise
requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also
don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make
them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
~ Where Am I? ~
Alisa is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and will be transported
via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe when a suitable foster or
permanent home offer comes up. Please note that if you are in the UK
and wish to meet/adopt Alisa, she will be fostered in the Norfolk area.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Alisa is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a
homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl
would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and we are always in
desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and
costs are covered by us.

Huxley
*
RESERVED *
Huxley is an adorable and active, 4 month
old pure bred greyhound
puppy. Due to a leg injury, Huxley will not be able to be trained for
the
racetrack, and so is looking for a loving home as a family pet. Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
As with most puppies, Huxley is a
bundle of fun and mischief, and
will keep his new family entertained for hours. His party piece at the
moment
is to steal a hat and run off with it! It is thought that his leg
injury was
either present at birth or happened when he was only a few days/weeks
old. This
has led to a slight bone deformity on his wrist, but it will not stop
Huxley
from playing and running just like any other hound. Obviously though,
the wrist
will not be strong enough for the stresses and strains placed on it at
the
tight bends of a racetrack, and for this reason Huxley is up for
adoption.
Puppies take up a lot of time when they are young and need a
home where
someone will be there with them for a significant part of the day.
~ Other Animals ~
Huxley is currently living with an
older greyhound, and sees any
animal as someone new to play with. As he is still young
he should be able
to be trained to live with cats, and will benefit greatly from
puppy classes.
~ In The Home ~
Housetraining is a work in progress as
Huxley has only
been in a home environment for a few weeks. He has another
greyhound to
copy, so it won't take him long to get the hang of things!
~ Where Am I? ~
Huxley is currently with the
greyhound trainer in a home in
Ireland, and can be
transported within Ireland, to the UK or
Europe when a suitable permanent or foster home comes up"
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Huxley will
be vaccinated, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as
part of
the adoption procedure. Adopters will have to sign a form to agree to
have
their puppy neutered when he is around 6 months old and we will check
back to
ensure this is done.
~ **Update ** ~
Huxley
is available again as life in the city has turned out to be very hard
on his legs. Ideally he needs a home with plenty of grassy space for
romps and walks. He is staying put with his mum for the moment where he
is happily sharing a home with her eleven year old daughter and three
Yorkie girls. He is racing up and down the stairs and is already very
clean around the house.

Tony
*
RESERVED for the Czech Republic *
Tony is
an extremely handsome 3 year old, brindle male greyhound.
He has been retired from racing, after a minor injury to his back leg,
and is
looking forward to a more relaxed way of life. Click
here
for details.
~
Personality ~
According
to his previous owner, Tony is a very
quiet boy and is well behaved in a home environment. He is good wth
children
and gets on well with other dogs. When travelling, Tony enjoys standing
up and
watching the world go by, and loves to have his nose out of the window
to sniff
at all the passing smells. He does indeed seem to be a quiet
affectionate boy,
and likes to rest his head against yours, cheek to cheek! We will
continue to
assess Tony in kennels, and hopefully he may be moved to a foster home
in a few
weeks time. At 27" high Tony is an average size for a male greyhound.
~
Other Animals ~
Upon
arrival at kennels Tony made instant
friends with a male lurcher and a female collie X. He was also happy to
see the
smaller resident dogs, and we have been told Tony is good with all
other dogs,
which we will also assess for ourselves. It is unlikely that he will be
cat
friendly..
~
In The Home ~
As Tony
has been in a home environment
before there shouldn't be any problem with him becoming
housetrained in
his new home. He is exceptionally clean in his kennel.
~
Where Am I? ~
Tony
is currently boarding in an Irish
kennel. He can be transported within Ireland, to the UK or
Europe when a suitable permanent or foster home comes up.
~
Want To Adopt Me? ~
Tony
is neutered, fully vaccinated
(including kennel cough), microchipped, flea and worm treated, Rabies
vaccinated and has an EU Pet Passport. A homecheck
will be required
as part of the adoption procedure.

Meet poor Kate. Kate is an 8 year old stray who was
brought to the KGC’s attention by a kind member of the
public. As you can see from the first two photos when Kate
came into us
she was in a terrible state. Every rib and vertebrae were
visible and she had a a number of open
sores. Thankfully KGC was able to offer Kate a
foster space. .After just two weeks on a diet of pasta, rice
and roast chicken Kate has put on a few pounds and is looking much
better. We will keep you
updated on Kates progress over the coming weeks.
~
Other Animals ~
Kate is initially shy but once she is familiar with you she becomes
most affectionate. Kate gets on well with the other dogs in
her foster home but has not yet been tested with smaller dogs or cats.
~
In the Home ~
Kate has been settling well in to her foster home. Kate will
sleep during the night and is clean in her crate . Kate has
the odd “wee” toilet accident but these are getting less frequent as
she adapts to being a household pet. Understandably
given her past, Kate can be a bit possessive of her food.
While she will take treats from your hand nicely she is not so keen
about you taking food from her. For this reason we think it
best that Kate is homed to an adult household.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Kate a real couch potato and does not need a huge

from a chance to live in a foster home and we are always eager for new
foster
volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are

~ Personality ~
Meet the lovely Aoife.
Aoife (pronounced Eefa)is a lovely young fawn coloured girl.
Aoife is approx 2.5 years of age. Aoife is looking for her
forever sofa as she was not suited to the race track when she was
raced.
~ Other Animals ~ Aoife's
owner tells us that she has a great nature and we think it shows in her
face. Aoife is good with other hounds but has yet to be tested
small dogs or cats.
~ In the Home ~
As she has not yet been in a home environment, Aoife's
new owners will
need to be patient and give her time to learn the house rules.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Aoife does not need a huge amount of
exercise. She
will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to
stretch
her legs off-lead in a safe area once or twice a week.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to
being
handled. They can fit very well into a wide range of different
lifestyles and
usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going
nature
often makes them ideal to live in a family environment, while their
love of
lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for
the
elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog
breeds
and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
~ Where Am I? ~ Aoife is currently with her owner
and is waiting patiently on a space to become free in our
kennels. However, the search for Aoife's forever home can start
now.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ If you are interested in
fostering or adopting Aoife please contact us. Aoife will be
vacinated, microchipped and neutered prior to adoption.
